1) Book Review choose one of the following (due June 21st, 5%)Axtell, Roger E., Dos and Taboos of Humor Around the World: Stories and Tips for Business
and Life, (January 1999) John Wiley & Sons; ISBN: 0471254037;Ricks, David A., Blunders in International Business, 3rd edition (January 2000) Blackwell Pub;

3) Review and critique of non-U.S. produced business radio(due June 30th, 5%).
A good place to start on the internet is: www.web-radio.com/, www.wrn.org/, www.radiotower.com/. You will need to work from a computer that has Real Audio software. If you don't personally have a computer that will do this the computer centers in the library and here in the Business School both do. To use SLU machines you are likely to need to get walkman type headphones.4) Book Review of your choice published on or after January 2000 (due July 5th, 5%).
Use this opportunity to read and focus on your rearch project discussed in the next section below. Qualify your choice with the instructor.5) Review a full length International film (in most cases non-Hollywood/non-English) which in your judgment illustrates the complexities of international business and managing cultural difference (due July 12th, 5%). Qualify your choice with the instructor.
6) Review a business case study on managing cultural differences of your personal choice (due July 19th, 5%). Select a case in your own area of interest and then qualify it with the instructor.
7) Review a website on the worldwide web which in some fashion deals with the issue of managing cultural difference in international business (due July 26th 5%). Provide the complete internet link addresses with your documentation. Qualify your choice with the instructor.
Each of the above six reviews should be submitted on or before the due date by email not using an attachment. The subject line of your email should begin with your name followed by the subject. For example if I were submitting a review the subject line would look like "Mikel Edwards ~ First Review ~ Blunders in International Business." Each review should be limited to one page, begin with a title and your name, followed with your text and then concluding with bibliographic reference. Where appropriate provide the complete internet link addresses. Those reviews that are particularly useful in addressing the subject of the class will be posted in the Managers' Forum section at http://www.eastwest-global.com/. Keep a "hard" copy of each review in your course journal.
Examination (July 8th, 20%) All students will take a closed book/open journal essay examination. Hand written exams will be accepted ONLY if completed in exam blue books. Exam blue books are available at the St. Louis University Book Store. Exam questions.
Class Presentation(due July 14th & 22th ) &
Research Paper (due July 28th, 20%)
Each student is required to complete a research paper, of not more than 10 pages excluding references, on a topic approved by the instructor. This work should demonstrate a level of scholarly analysis that goes beyond simple interpretive review. Please use Times New Roman – size 12 font only. One's home country/culture should not be the principle focus of your study. Your paper should focus on some aspect of managing cultural differences in a context that is of particular interest to you or of value to your company. Your work might analyze the reasons for failure or success in a specific global business relationship or concentrate on finding solutions to a new problem you or your company face. You may wish to research an international business case. You should however focus on some aspect of managing cultural differences that has value to you personally. Beginning on July 14th you should be prepared to make a brief presentation on the subject of your paper. This presentation should be from five to ten minutes long followed by questions from the class. Please email a draft abstract of your topic to me by June 20th. A final copy of a revised abstract should be made available to all when you make your presentation. In your research paper please include footnotes at the bottom of each page and a full list of references and other documentation as appendixes.Useful Reading:
