Radio Korea International
Review by: Nadège Gella Jean-Pierre

Radio Korea International was an interesting radio program.  It was an English
broadcast of news in Korea.  This was offered on News on Demand.  You could
listen to Radio Korea International in ten different languages.  This is very
useful radio program, because it offers up-to-date news in Korea.  In addition,
there were also links to information on Korea, including language lessons on
line.

This edition of Radio Korea International discussed how President Jung was taking
a trip to Europe in the beginning of March.  The president will be making a
10 day trip to Europe and holding a summit with the leaders of Italy, Germany
and France. This summit will be held the 2nd of March.  The topics between the
leaders will include talks on bilateral relations and cooperation between the
countries.  The summit will also focus on the political situation on the Korean
Peninsula.  There will also be a focus on the Asia/Europe meeting in October.

GM Motors was also discussed in this radio broadcast.  GM is back on track and
is expecting profits from 1999, thanks to the robust minivan sales last year
of $160 million.  The KIA was also a big hit.  Models like Carnival were very
popular.  Sales were up 100% from the last year.

The law in South Korea for the first time recognized brain death.  The first
successful transplantation was performed after the law was passed.

The Defense Ministry announced that they would increase the number of women
officers in the next years.
