I decided to do my web site review on intercultural skills in international
business on Globex International.  This company is a consulting firm that specializes
in helping multinational companies in expanding globally.  On this web site,
they list specifically what their company does to help their clients achieve
an understanding of international business.  Among this list, they provide a
service to train executives in intercultural business skills.

One of the training efforts is a workshop called, "Doing Business In…" (a certain
country). In this seminar the company teaches intercultural skills such as global
trends and the effect on business, a particular countries economic environment,
understanding the impact of cultural differences, styles of decision making
in other countries, and cross-cultural business skills.  This class also emphasizes
how to overcome communication barriers, learn powerful negotiation techniques,
and creating an effective cross-cultural environment.  All of these things I
just mentioned are very useful when deciding to expand abroad.

Another training workshop which Globex offers is, "Building Global Teams."
In this class, the company emphasizes the important part that teams play in
making global decisions.  To do this, the trainers offer and introduction to
cultural differences.  They give an overview of how effective teams operate
by introducing a five step "High Performance Team Development Model."  They
also emphasize that it is important to have a clear action plan.

The last training program that Globex offers is, "International Relocation."
 The biggest reason an international relocation fails is the family's inability
to adjust to the new country.  Globex offers this class so that this might not
be a problem for its clients.  The company offers many services in this program.
 However, some of this program's main objectives is to set expectations, get
an understanding of a different culture's value system and norms, to learn different
ways of communication, and finding the best place to live.  All of these things
are important for the executives and their families to learn, or at least gain
some knowledge of before they move to a different country.

I think that this company and its web site are an excellent resource to learn
about intercultural skills in international business.  If more companies would
use a consulting firm, such as Globex, relocation and global ventures may become
more successful.  There is an increasing number of opportunities in the global
marketplace.  However, with these opportunities, there are many threats such
as language and culture barriers.  This is why a consulting firm like Globex
is an important tool to help overcome these barriers.
