Managers' Forum ~ Website Reviews
Eurodicautom is the name of the web site that I will be reviewing.
Eurodicautom is a multilingual dictionary that would be very useful to
anyone who has to communicate or work in any of the languages of the
European Union. This site can be found at: http://eurodic.echo.lu/.It is a very helpful source of information for both intercultural skills
and international business. This dictionary is capable of translating a
word into any of the 13 languages of the European Union. It is very
effective and allows you to filter the subject. For example, when you
type in a word, the dictionary gives you the option of picking a
specific target language or all languages. It also accepts
abbreviations and search terms. The dictionary gives you the option of
entering any term or a word from a source language then matching this
term or word to any or all of the target languages. You also have the
option of using a truncation, which further describes the word you are
looking up. Finally, this dictionary gives you the option of entering a
term base, which acts as a filter on the subject. If you may need to
look up a legal or medical term, the dictionary allows you to put this
restriction on the search. This web site is maintained by the European Commission free of charge.
The Commission maintains this web site and the server in order to
enhance public access to information about the European Union, its
initiatives and general policies. Eurodicautom is the multilingual
terminological database of the European Commission initially developed
to assist in-house translators, it is today consulted by an increasing
number of other EU officials, as well as by language professionals
throughout the world.I found this to be a very interesting and useful site. In addition, I
looked up many words from English to French and Spanish and vice versa,
and this dictionary was quite exhaustive and accurate. The only
limitation is if you need to find a word that is not in the dictionary
or is from a language that is not in the European Union.Echo Eurodicautom – A European languages multilingual dictionary
